Exactly that. I have a similar thing when I'm recording music in my home studio: I've learnt that if I listen to the recordings in between takes, I frequently get stuck in my own head and frustrated. I've learnt to split it into several distinct tasks that can't overlap: a "sound engineer" stage when I set-up and check the levels, a "pianist" stage when I record the actual music, and a "mix engineer" stage for making minor tweaks. Each stage has a different task, and I can't mix them.
